ABOUT US

The Plattsburgh Community Garden Group was established in 2009 to create allotment style community gardens in and around the City of Plattsburgh that; build community, provide an enjoyable and safe place to grow crops, gather as friends, and learn the techniques of successful gardening. In its first year, the Plattsburgh Community Garden Group established our first at Melissa Penfield Park, where we now provide 60 gardeners with access to water, soil amendments, community tools, and some assistance with soil preparation and garden planning in exchange for a modest fee.

In 2011 we expanded to an additional garden location: The Mary Hulbert Memorial Community Garden. That garden was later lost to us because of development plans thre.

In 2014 we expanded to the Plattsburgh Housing Authority on South Catherine Street with 12 raised-bed plots and two wheelchair-accessible elevated growing areas.

Even the smallest garden plot can provide a family with an ample supply of fresh, locally grown vegetables; lowering family food costs, providing healthier and tastier meals and snacks and, reducing the carbon emissions needed transport food to the table.
